IMPORT/TRANSIT/EXPORT REGULATIONS
Customs Clearance
Hat Yai
- Monday through Friday 08.30 – 12.00 hrs. and 13.00 – 16.30 hrs.
- Clearance outside Customs hours possible only for diplomatic mail, magazines, periodicals, newspapers, press photos, press films.
- For all other shipments special permission in writing must be obtained from Airport Customs Chief during normal office hours. Such permission will only be given to urgent or perishable consignments and against payment of overtime fee.
Phuket

(Re)-Forwarding
- Possible in bond by air to Chiangmai, Hat Yai, Phuket airports (Customs Airport) only. Cargo destined to places other than Bangkok, Chiangmai, Hat Yai or Phuket will have to be cleared at Bangkok, Chiangmai, Hat Yai or Phuket.
IMPORT
GENERAL
Packing
Hay, straw or similar products are prohibited.
Marking
Packages must show AWB number and country of origin.
Routing
Via Customs airports at Bangkok, Chiangmai, Hat Yai and Phuket only.
Language on documents
English.
Other requirements
- AWB: Description and value of goods should be in conformity with Commercial Invoice, number and date of issue of Import Permit, if any, to be inserted.
DOCUMENTARY REQUIREMENTS
Commercial consignments
- 4 Commercial Invoices stating: value for each class of goods, net and gross weight and quantities in metric figures; name, quality, sort, composition, country of origin, destination or procuration, delivery of the goods (contract, consignment, destined for a branch office), mark numbers, sort of packing, insurance, freight, other charges, whether values are CIF, FOB or C. & F. Prior Permit from Ministry of Commerce, Import and Export Control Division, Foreign Trade Dept., Bangkok, for a large range of goods. 2 Additional copies of the Commercial Invoices should be sent separately to the consignee.
- Import license: From the Ministry of Commerce, Import and Export Control Division, Foreign Trade Dept., Bangkok, for a large range of goods.
- Sample consignments
- 2 Pro Forma Invoices signed by shipper, and showing same details as Commercial Invoices
- It shall bear the following statement: “FREE OF CHARGE – VALUES SHOWN FOR CUSTOMS PURPOSE ONLY” and must accompany the consignment, attached to the covering AWB. The remark “SAMPLE CONSIGNMENT” should be typed on the invoice.
- Exchange Permit from Bank of Thailand required if value exceeds THB 500,000.00 CIF Bangkok for import. For export if value exceeds THB 500,000.00 FOB Bangkok.

RESTRICTIONS
General
Due to special import regulations for many articles (e.g. ammunition, drugs, fire arms, intoxicants, spirit, tobacco articles, wireless apparatus) shipper should enquire in advance with consignee or Consulate.
Live animals
- Live animals imported for breeding purposes shall be accompanied by Health Certificate and pedigree papers.
Cats and dogs:
- Health Certificate and Rabies Inoculation Certificate.
- Rottweilers and Pitbull’s (American Stafford terrier):
- These kinds of dogs are banned for import into Thailand.
- All Live animal shipments into Thailand must have import permit done by consignee before leaving airport of departure.
Plants and plant material
- Health Certificate.
- Prohibited: Several plants from many countries. Enquire in advance with Consulate or other authority.
- Arms, ammunition and explosives
- Consignee must hold Prior Import Permit from Police Dept. Number and date of issue must be shown on the invoice. There must be a red strip around each package in the centre.
Human remains
- Not cremated: Death Certificate stating particulars of the deceased and cause of death.
- Cremated: Death Certificate and Certificate of Cremation.
- Pharmaceutical and chemical products
- Prior Import License and Registration Certificate. Exempted cases are shipments addressed to Red Cross of Thailand and small quantities for private use.
Medicines and vaccines
- Prior Import License and Registration Certificate from the Food and Drug Administration, Ministry of Public Health.
Meat and meat products
- Prior Import License and Registration Certificate from Ministry of Public Health.
Tobacco and tobacco products
- Prior Import License from Excise Dept., Ministry of Finance.
Precious metals and stones
- Prior Import License from Ministry of Finance
- Exchange Control Permit issued by Bank of Thailand
Radio-active materials
- Prior Import Permit issued by the office of Atomic Energy for Peace.
Others
Dangerous Goods:
- Any import consignment containing dangerous goods not cleared within 75 days after arrival in Thailand must be returned to origin at the risk and responsibility of the shipper.
PROHIBITIONS

TRANSHIPMENT/TRANSIT

A Customs transshipment entry prepared by carrier.

- Transit Permit from Police Dept. For application the Airline’s Freight dept. Bangkok needs the following details 2 weeks in advance: number of AWB and flight, number of packages and total weight, description of goods, date of arrival, name and address of both shipper and consignee.
Narcotics and drugs
- Prior Transit Permit from Excise Dept. of Ministry of Finance.
- Precious metals and stones
- Gold must be reforwarded within 24 hours after arrival.
Others
- Animal carcasses: Health Certificate.
